Jazzschool Summer Youth Program – Advanced
July 7th-11th, 2008
Mike Zilber, Director
Tuition: $725
An intense week of composition and performance classes for advancing high school jazz instrumentalists.
Seven young musicians are chosen based on level to work closely with top Bay Area performers and composers in developing and performing new jazz compositions and arrangements.
Students spend 2 hours daily receiving instruction and critique in improvisation and developing a group sound. A departure from the standard one instructor to an ensemble model, the student group meets each day with a complete ensemble of seasoned professionals (rhythm section + horns) able to demonstrate “how it’s done”.
Additionally, students spend 2 hours daily in a composition and arranging workshop, developing melodic, rhythmic, and harmonic tools and a strong foundation in creative jazz composition.
Each day concludes with an hour of self-directed rehearsal.
Private instruction is also available as a separate arrangement with the instructor.
The week-long program concludes with a concert open to the public at the Jazzschool featuring the students’ new works. Each student receives a professional quality recording of the concert!
Openings for horns, guitar, piano, bass, drums.
Auditions take place April 13th, 2008
