Mission Statement
The Jazzschool Institute is a music conservatory dedicated to the study and performance of jazz and related styles of music that serves to foster the development of the aspiring professional jazz musician and builds audiences to sustain the jazz art form. The Jazzschool Institute integrates a progressive education program taught by world-class musicians and music educators with public performance opportunities to prepare future generations for a fulfilling life in jazz.

The Jazzschool Institute strives to promote excellence in music scholarship and performance by establishing and maintaining the highest academic and artistic standards for its faculty and students.
Fostering High Ethical Standards
The Jazzschool Institute strives to foster high ethical standards, providing an environment that promotes the development of wellbalanced, conscientious, compassionate, forward-looking individuals who will contribute to a just society.
Honoring Historical and Cultural Heritage
The Jazzschool Institute strives to honor the historical and cultural heritage of the jazz canon by highlighting the prominent role the jazz art form has played in shaping American history and culture, and instilling a greater appreciation for jazz music among the institution’s many constituencies.

The Jazzschool Institute strives to develop community by seeking and embracing the cultural richness of its diverse students, faculty, staff, and the communities it serves.
Developing Collaborations
The Jazzschool Institute strives to create collaborations by building relationships with artistic and educational constituencies, providing access to local, national and global perspectives and new and meaningful educational and artistic resources.
Goals Statement
The following goals are crucial to the Jazzschool Institute’s vision to be an internationally recognized preeminent post secondary degree-grantingmusic conservatory:
- A state of the art innovative educational forum on par with nationally-ranked institutions offering programs in jazz studies at the postsecondary level that attracts and retains a world-class faculty and capable student body
- An environment setting and meeting the highest standards of quality and professionalism and promoting a strong work ethic
- A curriculum relevant to the challenges facing today’s professional musician
- A educational forum promoting cultural diversity and access through targeted community outreach efforts and by providing scholarship opportunities
- Opportunities to learn from and perform with locally, nationally and internationally prominentjazz educators and artists
- A far-reaching curriculum designed to inform and develop an appreciation of the relationship between jazz and American culture and the global jazz diaspora
- A means for students to explore and develop their personal voice through: knowledge of music history and style; development of technical proficiency, musicianship skills and artistic ability; and access to public performance opportunities
- Hands-on opportunities to experience freedom of expression both as an individual and an integral member of the group in the democratically-structured jazz ensemble
- A fully-equipped aesthetically pleasing facility housing classrooms, practice rooms and intimate performance space as well as a book and record store and café that nurture community
- Opportunities to build relationships and collaborations with artists and arts and education organizations locally, nationally and
internationally
- A nurturing environment for students, teachers, scholars and artists in the jazz field
